Cool Things to do in Hong Kong with the Kids

Activities Asia China

Hong Kong is brimming with energy from the moment that you arrive until the second you leave.  Beautiful landmarks, stunning skylines, and countless street markets are just a few things waiting for your family.

Some fascinating and fun things for families in Hong Kong include:

Visit Lamma Island

There are no cars on Lamma Island, except for emergency vehicles.  This is in stark contrast to the main Hong Kong Island with its numerous skyscrapers.  A pleasant place for your family to relax away from the hustle and bustle, it can be reached in just half an hour by boat.  There are pleasant beaches, great for sunbathing, swimming, and building a sandcastle, coastal hiking trails, a delightful fishing village, caves to explore, and culture aplenty.

Relax on Cheung Sha Beach

Found on Lantau Island, active families can enjoy paddling along Cheung Sha beach and clamming in the Shui Hau mudlands – often a huge hit with kids!  The nearby Nong Ping Cable Car offers great views of the area.

Have Fun at Disneyland Hong Kong

Excellent rides, captivating shows, lovely themed areas, a wide choice of places to eat and drink, enticing retail areas, photo opportunities galore, wonderful fireworks, energetic parades, and the chance for your kids to meet all their favourite Disney characters … all in all, a recipe for a perfect memorable family day out!  Located on Lantau Island, it is easy to reach by the special Disneyland resort Line.

Explore a Wet Market

Hong Kong’s wet markets are where locals go to shop for the day’s groceries.  They are an eye-opening sight for kids and adults alike.  The best time to visit is in the morning, when people flock to get the best stuff for dinner and the stalls are fully stocked.

Head to the Top of Victoria Peak

Reached by funicular, Victoria Peak is one of Hong Kong’s most famous destinations.  Rising up 550 metres above sea level, the summit affords breathtaking views of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, Victoria Harbour, and, on clear days, Kowloon’s eight majestic mountains.

Ride the Escalators

Children will enjoy riding the high hillside elevators, hopping off at various points along the way for your family to discover the bustling little streets.  Be sure, however, not to miss the last one down or you will be in for a long walk!  The direction of travel changes throughout the day.

Other favourites include taking a boat ride to see pink dolphins, chilling out at the unfortunately-named Repulse Bay, watching an array of aquatic life at Ocean Park, seeing animals aplenty at Hong Kong Zoo, standing by the waterside to admire the evening Symphony of Lights show, shopping in the glitzy malls, dining on tasty dim sum, marveling at the Giant Buddha at Po Lin Monastery, having fun at Snoopy World Playground, visiting the Space Museum and Science Centre, learning more at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, exploring the Flower Market and Jade Market … and more!  There really is so much for families to see and do in vibrant Hong Kong.
